Creating Texture with Oil

The Art of Spectral Impasto

To capture the chaotic energy of the wild, flat paint wasn't enough.

I developed Spectral Impasto to bridge the gap between painting and sculpture. It starts with a 'super-charged' underpainting - often neon pinks or electric blues. I then bury these colors under thick, structural slabs of oil paint, leaving intentional fractures and ridges.

These physical layers catch the light, while the hidden neon base glows from within the cracks. It creates a painting that physically changes as the sun moves across your room.

Inside the Studio

The finished piece is only half the story. The true nature of Spectral Impasto is found in the movement - the layering of heavy body oil.

I film the process to show the chaos before the control. It is a messy, physical battle to build structure out of liquid color.
